St. George Macedonian Orthodox Church Pavilion

Farmington Hills, MI

In response to pandemic safety guidelines and a desire to continue to serve their congregation with an open-air alternative to gathering, St. George Macedonian Church worked with Amy Baker Architect and the City of Farmington Hills authorities to bring a new pavilion through planning and permit approvals in an efficient manner.

Multiple structural alternatives were priced out while the design and construction drawings were simultaneously refined until a cost-effective and functional option was found. The project was kicked off in late August, and by December it was approved for construction, after having gone through Site Plan Review, Engineering Review, and Building Permitting.

The 48' x 72’ pavilion is constructed over an existing paved concrete area adjacent to the church. It utilizes scissor trusses to clear span the footprint while maximizing the headroom under the structure.
