Canterbury on the Lake Roof Terrace

Waterford, MI

The original 1993 plans for the long-term skilled nursing building within the Canterbury on the Lake campus included a Roof Garden amenity for residents to enjoy.  Some 28 years after the building’s construction, the terrace garden would finally be built out.

The design of the terrace was envisioned by Past Chair of the COTL Board of Directors, Bill Ahlstrom.  Amy Baker Architect would carry this design forward through permitting and approvals, bidding, and construction in collaboration with Bill and the COTL Facility Services team.

This retrofit garden repurposes much of the existing steel structure from previous rooftop construction for a new fabric awning structure and introduces new paver-on-pedestal walking surfaces, artificial turf lawn areas, raised planters, wood seating, and a feature water fountain.

Status: Pre-Construction
