Hartz Building Condo Renovation

Detroit, MI

The Hartz Building, constructed in 1902, was originally built for the J.F. Hartz Company, suppliers of medical supplies and surgical instruments.  It was also occupied by various other local businesses, including a cigar manufacturer, a dental specialties company, a belt company, medical journal companies, and clothing manufacturers as early as 1907.  In 2003, the building underwent a complete renovation, which included the build-out of the Detroit Beer Company on the first and second floors.

This interior renovation converts existing office space to high-end condos on three floors.  Each unit occupies one whole floor and has private elevator access.  The open floor plans maximize city views facing the Detroit Opera House and Comerica Park.

High-end finishes, fixtures, and appliances set the units apart from typical condo construction, while large areas of exposed, historic brick serve as a reminder of the building's unique history.
